Byte Glossary Home A byte is a series of 8 bits. Also called a character.   A group of data bits that are processed together.   There are kilobytes, Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes, etc.   Computer storage space is measured in bytes.  - 1 Byte        =  8 bits  - 1 kilobyte    = about 1,000 bytes  - 1 Megabyte = about 1,000,000 bytes              = about 1,000 kilobytes  - 1 Gigabyte  = about 1,000,000,000 bytes        = about 1,000 Megabyte  - 1 Terabyte   = about 1,000,000,000,000 bytes = about 1,000 Gigabyte
